The Men And The Chair In Front Of My Window

I directed and shot this short documentary which was screened at The House of Lords in London to launch a new mental health initiative. Filmed over one year, the film is made up of interviews with men I saw sitting on a bench outside the window of my old rented apartment. The film was acquired by the non-profit Love Brother.

BBC Storyville

Shot over 5 years, my first feature documentary “Hillsong Church: God Goes Viral” was broadcast by the BBC as part of the prestigious Storyville strand. The film details the story of celebrity favourite and globally trending megachurch Hillsong. Gaining rare access to the church it follows key church leaders and a number of its congregation, who tell personal stories of salvation and shed light on the current scandals within the church. The film has been acquired by numerous channels across the world.

Documentary + Originals - Crypto Farmers

Examining the unlikely relationship between a young cryptocurrency entrepreneur and struggling farmers in rural Wales. As farms in Britain continue to shut down due to unprofitability, Crypto Farmers follows a group of Britons as they build hydro, solar, and manure-powered crypto mining rigs to both bolster crypto’s environmental reputation and preserve the farmers’ way of life. The film is available to stream world wide.

Channel 4 - The Boy With the 8 Hour Heart

Channel 4 acquired my award-winning 30 minute documentary which follows Jim Lynskey, the youngest person with a mechanical heart as he campaigns to raise awareness around organ donation. Shot over 3 years, the film charts his agonising wait for a heart transplant. The film has won multiple awards including two Lovie Awards and was nominated for a Broadcast Digital Award.

Channel 4 - Making Western Flag

A documentary for Channel 4 on the work of artist John Gerrard. Shot in Gerrard’s studio in Vienna, the film tells the story behind his new artwork which speaks to environmental devastation and the proposed geological epoch the Anthropocene. The documentary was broadcast on Channel 4 to mark Earth Day.

Red Bull TV

Directed a 30 minute film on the career of BMX rider Kriss Kyle as he prepared for his biggest stunt yet, the documentary was shown on Red Bull TV around the world. I have also directed a series of short films on the Red Bull Air Race in Indianapolis for Red Bull TV.

Google

I directed, shot and produced branded content for Google. Filmed all over the world, with a wide range of subjects and a diverse selection of contributors. The films ranged from filming in refugee camps to interviewing coders in Silicon Valley.

Tate

Made over 200 short arts documentaries with artists and celebrities ranging from Christopher Nolan, Kusama, Elton John, Ed Ruscha and Taryn Simon. The films were shown on Nowness, The Guardian, The New York Times and Channel 4. I also directed the 2014 Turner Prize films.

British Art Show 8

Nick directed and shot 3 films for British Art Show 8, the landmark touring art exhibition that highlight the very best contemporary art being produced in the UK. Taking place every five years, the show introduces a broad public to a new generation of artists and the films featured interviews with artists creating new work for the exhibition. the were shown both in gallery, online and featured by The Guardian.

I’ve directed and shot a variety of branded content for the London, Hong Kong and New York branches of the world famous auction house. From films on a fully operational Spitfire to the oldest fossil in the world to masterpieces of art.

I’ve directed and shot films for a number of charities. These range from the housing charity Hyde, learning disability charity Mencap, the homeless shelter Emmaus and Pavement which is a magazine printed for people living on the streets of London.

Nick Aldridge is a documentary director currently based in LA. He makes highly personal, intimate films that are filled with warmth and humour. He has directed BIFA qualifying films and shot documentaries that have qualified for the Oscars.

His feature documentary Hillsong Church: God Goes Viral was shown on the BBC as part of its prestigious Storyville strand and has been bought by broadcasters around the world. The film has been picked up by Ro*Co Films for international sales.

Nick’s BIFA qualifying short The Men And The Chair In Front Of My Window has been selected to launch the mental health campaign Love Brother and after a screening at the House of Lords will be shown at selected festivals.

His multi award winning documentary The Boy With An 8 Hour Heart was acquired by Channel 4 in the UK and was nominated for a Broadcast Digital Award.
